1640, Portugal becomes idependant of Spain once again, after 60 years of Spanish rule.

In 1649 King Charles the first, of England and Wales, is beheaded.

Between 1649 and 1660 England and Wales became a Commonwealth. Dancing, horse racing and sport on Sundays were banned.

In 1660 the monarcy is restored and Charles the second becomes king of England and Wales.
