I have a copy of John Trotman's birth certificate. The date is hard to read but is the twenty something of March 1853 in Coln Rogers, his father is listed as Henry Trotman, Husbandman and his mother as Mary Trotman, formerly Freeman. Mary Trotman made her mark, the registration took place on the seventh of April (district of Northleach, sub-district of Chedworth).
There is a record of a John Trotman being christened on 15th May 1853 in Coln Rogers, Gloucestershire, England. His parents were Henry and Mary Trotman.
The first lead was to obtain the birth certificate of Hannah Trotman born 19 June 1878. This has the family living at 12, Garden Place(?), East Vale, Caverswall. Hannah's father is listed as John Trotman, coal miner, and her mother as Hannah Trotman formerly Bagwall (it could be read as Baguale, just).
Looking for the marriage of John Trotman and Hannah Bagwall gave no matches and looking for the birth of Hannah Bagwall has given no matches.
Finally I found a birth and obtained the certificate for Hannah Bagguly, born 9th of October 1846, in Paradise Street, Lane End, in Stoke-on-Trent. Her father was George and her mother was Sarah Bagguly, formerly Sarah Thomas.
From this or some time I listed the parents of Hannah Trotman nee Bagguley, wife of John Trotman as George Bagguly and Sarah Thomas. I obtained a copy of their marriage certificate and traced their father's names from that (see this page for details).
Then I found a marriage for John Trotman and Hannah Maria Baguall. The marriage certificate is dated 17th of October for John Trotman and Hannah Maria Baguall. Hannah made her mark, so Baguall was not her spelling of the name! She is listed as a potter on the certificate, living in New Street, her father is listed as James Baguall, a bricklayer.
The location is the Parish of Ed????. I am still trying to establish the place name.
So then I had to abandon the Baggulleys etc (click here for details of that wild goose chase) and look for Bagualls, except that they turned out to be Bagnalls!
In the 1881 census while John Trotman was living with his wife Hannah Maria at 10, Garden Place, Caverswall. There was a Sarah Bagnall (widow) living at 12, Garden Place, the address that Hannah Maria was born at!.
At the time of the 1881 British Census, John Trotman and his family are living at 10 Garden Place, Caverswall, Staffordshire, England
