Thomas Millington's marriage certificate, shows that Thomas Millington, labourer married Elizabeth Mathews, daugher of Thomas on the 25th of January 1838. The marriage was at the parish church of Prees, Shropshire. Their father's were both labourers William Millington and Thomas Mathews, witnesses were William Millington and William Drury.
Free BMD has a death recorded for a Thomas Millington in the first quarter of 1844 (Wen&co, vol 18, page 181).
Elizabeth Millington's birth certificate gives her d.o.b. as 25th June 1841. Her father is Thomas Millington labourer, and her mother Elizabeth Millington formerly Elizabeth Mathews. Elizabeth's mother makes her mark and is living at Green Lane (Prees?, Whitchurch?).
In the 1861 census there is an Elizabeth Millington of the right age (19), but her place of birth is given as Prees, not Whitchurch. At the time of the census she is unmarried and a kitchen maid (servant) to the Marsh family at Cheswardine.
I have a copy of Elizabeth Millington's marriage certificate. This lists Elizabeth's father as Thomas Millington. Elizabeth married William Welch, who's father is listed as John Jones a labourer, on the 3rd of January 1866. The marriage took place at Cheswardine parish church (in the registration district of Market Drayton, but also not far from Newport and Stoke-on-Trent). Elizabeth's residence is given as Cheswardine, Williams is given as Burlem. William and Elizabeth as both 23, William and both fathers are listed as labourers. Williams signs his name, but Elizabeth "makes her mark".
Free BMD gives a death for an Elizabeth Welch in the 4th quarter of 1900 aged 49 in Wolstanton district (vol 6b, page 114) of Staffordshire, which includes Burslam. But this is not William Welch's wife. See Welch Familes in Shropshire, & Staffordshire.
