Family oral history has a Harry Gerrard born 28th of July 1898 living at 51, George Street, Hindley. Later he lived at Bridgewater Street. His wife was May Gerrard, born May Jones. They had three children Jessie, Norman and Harry Junior.

Harry's birth certificate gives his date of birth as 28th of July 1898 and his place of birthas 4 (back) Bridgewater Street, Hindley. His father is listed as James Gerrard (Coal Miner) and his mother as Elizabeth Gerrard (formerly Elizabeth Walls). Elizabeth "makes her mark".

The 1901 Census shows Harry as 2 years old living at 51, George Street.
