1803 (27 March) Gerard Gerard christened at Hindley parents William Gerard and Betty Prescott.
There is a church record (found via Family Search) for Parish registers, 1698-1948 Church of England. Chapelry of Hindley (Lancashire) of an ALICE CHRITCHLEY marrying a GERRAND GEVRAND on the 5th of August 1830.
There is a church record (found via Family Search) for Hindley of a Richard Gerrard marrying a Jane Aspinall on the 22nd of June 1861. I have obtained the marriage certificate (June 1861 Wigan 8c 31) for this wedding and it gives the following :-
22nd June 1861, in the Parish Church of Hindley,
Richard Gerrard, 27, batchelor, Collier, Chapel Green, father Gerard Gerrard, Paletter (see below).
Then 1861 census shows the family living at Chapel Green, Hindley. There is Gerrad Gerrard, Alice (his wife), Richard, Elizabeth, John, Mary and James G.
In an effort find Alice Gerrard's maiden name I ordered a birth certificate for a Mary Gerrard born 1st quatrer 1846 in Wigan. Unfortunatley, this turns out not to be the right Mary Gerrard, the birth certificate details are :-
Mary Ann Gerrard, born 4th of March 1846, father William Gerrard, smith. Mother Elizabeth Gerrard formerly Mullineux, place of residence is Blackrod.
I then ordered a birth certificate for a Mary Gerrard born 4th quarter 1844 in Wigan. This is our Mary Gerrard, but the hand writing on the certificate was very unclear (at least to me). Mary Gerrard, born ?29th? of ?October? 1844 in Hindley, father Gerrard Gerrard ?weaver?, mother Alice Gerrard, formerly ?Ritchley? ?Critchley?. Gerrard Gerrard signed his name. Fortunately the marriage record in IGI above has the correct name for Alice Critchly and a garbled version of Gerrard Gerrard, but the two together confirm the names and dates.
Paletter: From Joan Harris " 'dataller' means 'someone who looks after the roofing underground in the pits'.". Although the handwriting is indistinct I think that 'dataller' is unlikely. Foot Note: Susan Winton, via Genes Reunited has an Alice Critchly 1810, with several genarations of Ancestors, parents John Critchly 1783 and Margaret Mollyneux 1782. But I can not confirm that this is the same person.
