Ann Williams

In 24 Almond Street, Liverpool there is a Williams family who could be the family of out Ann Williams. At 202 Little Wind Street, Swansea, there is an Ann Williams. perhaps "our" Ann Williams, she is a visitor The date and place of birth are right, and there are two Edwards's staying in the same house!

Copy of Emma Maria Edwards birth certificate : born 1st of January 1859 at 12 Alice Street Cardiff, father John Edwards Engine Driver, mother Ann formerly Williams.

1861

I can not find our John Edwards, born in Sully, aged 33, in the 1861 census (using 1837online.co.uk).

1871 Census

Emma is listed as being with her Aunt & Uncle, David & Amy Williams at 36 St Mary's St which appears to be a hotel run by the Williams family.

At 12 Alice Street, Cardiff

I have a major problem here, Ann's maiden name is Williams on her childrens' birth certificate, but the 1871 census gives a surname that I can not read as Williams, but could be Evans - she could of course have remarried!

1881 census

John Edwards (Engine Driver). Born on 1827 (or 1828) is listed as being 53 and living at 29 Alice Street, Cardiff St.Mary, Glamorganshire, Wales. His place of birth is given as Sully, Glamorganshire, Wales.

His wife is listed in the Census as Ann, aged 50, born in St.Athens, Glamorganshire, Wales.

Another John Edwards marries another Ann!

I have a copy of the marriage certificate of John Edwards and Ann David. They were married in the Parish Church of Llancarvan (now spelt Llancarfan) on the 12th of August 1850, John is listed as "of full age" and Ann as "under age", (i.e. over and under 21). John's father is Lewis Edwards and Ann's is Thomas David. Ann is a servant, John and both fathers are labourers. Both John and Ann are listed as living in Llancarvan. The marriage is by the rite of the Church of England and conducted by David Morgan, Vicar. The witnesses are Thomas David, Mary Edwards (mother?) and Edward Williams. John, Ann, Thomas David and Mary Edwards all "made their mark"
