Place Names

The town of Castle Cary is in Somerset, see map, it is not far from the A37 (Fosse Way) and near the river Brue. The villages of Lovington, Bruton, Hornblotton, and East Penard are all not far away and the Cleaves family are associated with all of these places.

Marriage Certificate

On the 16th of May 1858, at St Mary the Virgin Church, Cardiff, Edward Cleaves married Harriett Collins, they give their condition as Bachalor and Spinster. Edwards is a "wire rope maker" he is living at 10, West Church Street and his father is Samual Cleaves, Labourer. Harriet is living at 50 Bute Street, her father is James Collins, Butcher.

They give their ages as 23 (Edward) and 25 (Harriett) which would mean that they were born in 1835 and 1833 (not quite consistent with the census returns).

Witnesses are Edward Martin and Martha Derrick.
