IGI has father John Bagnall born 1781, Staffordshire.
Everyone other than John Bagnall aged 60 are assumed to be his children, but the 1841 does not state relationships, from the later censuses we can see that Sarah and Maria are sisters, but Harriot and a younger John are Sarah's children. There is a possibility that Sarah could be John's wife (later she lists herself as widow), but her sister's surname is Bagnall too. Sarah may have been only 14 when Harriet was born, her ages on the census records do not agree. Both Sarah and Maria appear to have illegitimate children (no father listed on birth certificate) it is dangerous to assume family relationships! I could clear some of this up if I could find birth certificates for Sarah's children, John and Harriet, but I can not!
The 1841 Cenus for Wood Street, Lane End, Stafford, England has
The 1851 Census for Anchor Road shows Sarah Bagnall as head of household, unmarried, Sarah has a sister Maria 25 with her, and both are China Burnishers. With them are Sarah's children a son John Bagnall aged 4 (therefore born about 1847) and a daughter Harriet 13 (therefore born about 1838). I have a birth certificate for John Bagnall, born 2 November 1846, Lane End, mother Sarah Bagnall, father's name unrecorded
I have a birth certificate for Hannah Bagnall, born 11 December 1850, Anchor Road, Longton mother Maria Bagnall, father's name unrecorded
The 1861 Census for 9 Anchor Road shows Sarah Bagnall (1837online shows as Baynall) as head of household, widow, Sarah is a Potter's Burnishers. With Sarah are children, son John Bagnall aged 15 (therefore born about 1846) a potter's mould ?common? and a daughter Anne Maria 15 (therefore born about 1854). The 1881 census lists Sarah Bagnall (widow) as 67 years old living at 12, Garden Place, Caverswall, Staffordshire.
There was a Garden Place changed to Hackett Street, (neither are there now though) Longton which was off Goddard street which runs down into Anchor Road. For more Bagnalls go to http://www.bagnallvillage.com/Tree/l_b.htm#bagnall More BagnallsChristening from Leigh, Staffordshire
